VFA, in partnership with Zala Films, produced Taking the Long View: The Life of Shiing-shen Chern (2011). This biographical documentary examines the life of a remarkable man whose formidable contributions to mathematics were matched only by his unique vision and disciplinary approach which built enduring bridges between China and the West. Shiing-shen Chern, who dedicated his life to pure mathematics in the style of a classical Chinese sage, was able to navigate the most dramatic events of the 20th century. Shiing-shen Chern (1911-2004) is considered a father of modern differential geometry.
